Yum pla krapong can be directly translated as "salad (tossed) of canned fish" so any type of canned fish can be prepared the same way. This might sound a little weird to some of you but I promise this is a very delicious salad, the best thing is there is no cooking involved. A wonderful standby dish on rainy days as long as you are a fan of canned sardines. Serve this as a beer snack or as part of a Thai meal with plenty of steamed rice.
P.S As I continue to celebrate the beautiful food of Thailand, the country was brought to its knees. To my concerned friends, my family and love ones are safe and sound despite the disruptions they face in their daily lives so thank you. The peace loving Thais are a resilient bunch; the angel will return to "the city of angel" and smiles will return to "the land of thousand smiles", meanwhile I am mourning with the nation.
serves 4 as part of a Thai meal
you'll need;
1 can of sardine (or mackeral) in tomato sauce, drained and flaked (reserve the sauce for dressing*)
3 shallots, sliced
2 spring onions, sliced
1/2 cup of coriander leaves
1 red chili, sliced
1 tomato, sliced
for the dressing;
4 tbs of reserved tomato sauce*
juice of 1 lime
2 tbs of dried chili flakes
1 tbs of black pepper
dash of fish sauce
combine everything well, check for seasonings and adjust the taste to your liking.
work in progress....
Have all the ingredients ready, make the dressing.
Mix everything in a large bowl.
Place salad on a plate of lettuce and serve as part of a Thai meal.
