A Lovely Japanese Home Cooked Lunch On A Lazy Sunday Afternoon

I was lucky enough to be invited to a luncheon hosted by my dear friend A's mother Hiro  for a group of Japanese expats a while back. Apart from the two types of goheimochi (grilled rice cakes), most of those who attended also brought with them a plate or two of tasty home cooked Japanese dishes.

A lazy stroll through the suburb where A grew up followed after one of the best home cooked meals we have had in recent years.

The following are some of the lovely dishes we sampled and I will certainly recreate some of them so please stay tuned.

Goheimochi being grilled.

Goheimochi with miso and ground peanut.

Goheimochi with Nagoya miso.

A colourful Japanese coleslaw of carrot, cabbage, corn and alfafa sprouts.

Hiro's stir fried Chinese cabbage with bacon and shitake mushroom, its utterly delicious and I am going to recreate this very soon!

A refreshing cucumber pickle with ginger and crab meat.

Lip smacking good braised pork ribs with black bean, shimeji and king oyster mushrooms.

My first serving.

A's first serving.

  3. Oh Yum! I would like a serving!!! The braised pork ribs with black bean, shimeji and king oyster mushrooms looks lip smacking good. Oh and the Goheimochi with Nagoya miso, and Japanese slaw...I guess I'll just have to stay tuned to see how it's done! Looking forward to it.
